The Surprising Toxicity Of Everyday Products

Whether it's baby products, pet supplies, clothing, or personal care items, the products Americans purchase are expected to be non-toxic and perfectly safe. However, this isn't the case for a surprising number of products. In fact, over 150 chemicals found in the average American home have been linked to allergies, psychological disorders, birth defects, and cancers. Approximately 70,000 chemical compounds have been newly invented and used in the home and local environment since 1950 without prior testing for toxicity. In the last 20 years, the rate of asthma in the U.S. has tripled to 30 million cases. There are an unfortunate number of products that are contaminated or created with harmful chemicals. Fortunately, there are safer alternatives for every American and their families.

Apparel

As mentioned above regarding non-organic diapers and soft toys, fibers made from non-organic or man-made materials can contain dangerous toxins. When these toxins come into contact with your skin over long periods of time, you may suffer from various health issues. Image result for clothes

Clothing Made From Modified Cotton And Formaldehyde

Cotton is one of the most commonly used fibers in American apparel. It's also one of the most toxic. Cotton uses more pesticides during its growth cycle than any other crop in the United States. In fact, cotton uses 16 to 25% of the nation's plant-growing chemicals. One of these chemicals includes Roundup, an herbicide that's been linked to hormone disruption, cancer, and resistance to antibiotics. In some cases, cotton has also been known to contain chlorine bleachand formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is the key chemical used in creating anti-cling, perspiration-proof, and pre-shrunk apparel. Unfortunately, formaldehyde is a carcinogen and has been linked to an increased rate for lung cancer by 30%.

What's The Alternative?

Organic clothing uses cotton fiber that's free from pesticides and herbicides. That means you can enjoy your favorite lazy Sunday sweater without worrying about the health implications. Additionally, look for companies that sell clothing using other materials and fibers such as bamboo, cork, hemp, and wool. These materials are free from chemicals and are better suited to the environment.

Baby Products

Babies eat four times the amount of food per pound of body weight. They also breathe two times the amount of air per pound of body weight compared to the average adult. This makes infants more vulnerable to food and air contaminants. However, it isn't only food and air contaminants that can affect a baby's health.

According to the Archives of Environmental Health, studies have shown that conventional disposable diapers commonly used by parents release volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. VOCs include chemicals such as xylene, ethylbenzene, toluene, and dipentene. When these chemicals come into contact with a child's skin, they can cause long-term health problems such as childhood asthma and cancer. Conventional disposable diapers have also have also been known to cause harsh diaper rash. A study conducted in 2005 showed disposable diapers sometimes used dyes that contained heavy metals. When these dyes came into contact with the skin of a child, it resulted in irritant diaper dermatitis, or diaper rash.

What's The Alternative?

Organic cotton cloth diapers have been making a comeback in recent years. If cloth diapers are not a manageable option, look for innovative companies that offer safer disposable diapers that are free from heavy metals, lead, latex, chlorine, lotions and fragrance.

PBTs In Children's Toys

Bioaccumulative toxins, or PBTs, have been regularly found in playmats and plastic children's toys in recent years. PBTs such as cadmium, have been known to cause serious health issues such as damage to the kidneys, lungs, and bones. It's also a common cause of cancer. Children's toys have also been known to contain Brominated Flame Retardants, or BFRs, as well as arsenic. BFRs have been shown to cause delayed physical and mental development and thyroid problems. Exposure to arsenic also reduces cognitive function while raising the risk of fetal mortality.

What's The Alternative?

It's surprisingly easy to cut out plastic toys from your child's playtime. A wide variety of companies made children's toys from natural, unfinished wood so you don't have to worry about your child gnawing on BFRs. Some companies will also finish their wood toys with organic oils and beeswax. For softer toys like stuffed animals and dolls, consider organic options. Just like cloth diapers, the organic label will help keep pesticides from passing from the fiber to your child's hands and mouth.

Personal Care Products

Personal care products have had past problems with the general public due to animal testing. However, the issue with health and beauty supplies goes beyond animal welfare.

Parabens In Synthetic Fragrances

Perfumes have been around for thousands of years. But only in modern times have these synthetic fragrances contained chemicalssuch as parabens, aldehydes, and benzene derivatives. Related image These chemicals have been linked to detrimental health issues such as nervous system problems and cancers. They've also been linked to skin allergic reactions and dermatitis.

What's The Alternative?

Consider using natural fragrances rather than synthetic ones. These fragrances use organic ingredients and include extracts from various plants and fruits such as vanilla and peach. Many also base their fragrances with essential oils like lavender and bergamot, which improve mood and blood circulation. What's more is that these natural fragrances aren't any more expensive than synthetic fragrances.

Heavy Metals In Lipstick

Image result for lipstick It may be a compliment to hear that your lipstick is "metal," but not when one of the metals your lipstick contains is arsenic. Lip color products, as well as eye shadow, concealer, blush, and sunscreen have been known to include heavy metals such as mercury, aluminum, zinc, lead, chromium, and arsenic. These chemicals have been known to negatively affect the environment. They've also been linked to health issues such as cancer, reproductive problems, developmental conditions, and organ system problems. Pregnant women and young children are especially susceptible to these issues.

What's The Alternative?

Staying away from heavy metals can be difficult. This is because heavy metals aren't always listed on the label of every personal care product. To help keep yourself safe from chemicals, check the labels of your personal care products in case these ingredients are included. You can also choose from products that use natural ingredients such as beeswax and vegetable wax.

Household Cleaning Products

Common household cleaning products are loaded with harsh chemicals, many of which are toxic. But did you know these toxins can still affect you even when you're not touching them directly?

The Dangers Of All-Purpose Cleaners

Image result for cleaning productAll-purpose cleaners are great for cleaning every room and surface of the house. Unfortunately, they're also great for causing damage to the eyes and lungs. This is because all-purpose cleaners typically contain chemicals like ammonia, ethylene glycol monobutyl acetate, and sodium hypochlorite. These chemicals can cause anything from skin rashes to brain and kidney damage. And, when mixed with other cleaning solutions such as ammonia and chlorine, these chemicals can go from dangerous to outright deadly.

What's The Alternative?

Try cleaning products that are plant-based or use ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, and lemon. These products use enzymes that break down stains and odors. In fact, baking soda and water used together in a homemade recipe can remove everyday stains.

Aerosol In Canned Air Fresheners

Air fresheners may make your home smell nice, but they also contaminate the air with aerosol fumes. These fumes can causeearaches, headaches, diarrhea, and even brain damage. Many air fresheners have also been known to contain petroleum distillates. These colorless liquids have a kerosene-like smell and can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. In some cases, they've been linked to pulmonary edema, a fatal condition caused by excess fluid in the lungs.

What's The Alternative?

Oil diffusers make for great-smelling alternative to spray air fresheners as well as candles, which can sometimes contain formaldehyde and benzene. Essential oil diffusers and reed diffusers use oils such as lavender, bergamot, chamomile, and cedarwood to make your home smell natural and fresh. Additionally, the ingredient list for either diffuser is relatively small. Water and essential oils are the key ingredients whereas for reed diffusers, you may also need bamboo skewers and vodka.

Pet Products

Many pet owners don't often question the chemicals that are involved with pet products. However, your furry friends are just as vulnerable to toxins as children are.

Imported Pet Toys

Image result for dog ball

In May 2011, the U.S. imported up to $29 billion in Chinese products. Among these products are pet toys. According to a 2007 test run by Consumeraffairs.com, a surprising number of these toys contain traces of the same heavy metals found in personal care products. These heavy metals include chromium, cadmium, and lead. When chewed and licked on by pets, these toys release these chemicals. As a result, many pets have suffered from neurological problems and cancers.

What's The Alternative?

Look for pet toys that include organic ingredients and fibers. Toys with labels such as phthalate-free and BPA-free are also good choices. For chew toys, many pet owners will often assume natural chews are the best choice. In reality, some natural chew toys or treats like elk antlers can hurt your pet's teeth. consider those recommended by the Veterinary Oral Health Council.

Carcinogens In Flea Collars

Image result for cat flea collarFlea and tick collars are necessary for pets during the spring and summer when disease-ridden pests try to claim your furry friend as their host. However, flea collars have been known to contain chemicals that can be dangerous to human health. Two of these chemicals are tetrachlorvinphos and propoxur. According to the EPA, these chemicals may be carcinogens. What's more, flea collars have been known to contain amitraz. Amitraz is considered a developmental toxicant, meaning it can cause birth defects should a pregnant woman be exposed to it.

What's The Alternative?

There are flea and tick collars for pets that contain natural ingredients only. These flea collars use herbs and natural oils such as cedarwood, eucalyptus, pennyroyal, citronella, and rue to fight back and repel pests. There are a vast number of chemicals and toxins in a variety of everyday American products. Fortunately, the health problems caused by these toxins can be avoided. By choosing natural, organic products and paying attention to ingredients, we can keep toxic chemicals out of our lives and out of the environment.

Rally For Rivers: The Vital Link Between Forests and Rivers

Did you know that 65-75% of your body's composition is water? Water is an element that we cannot survive without. We can fast for weeks, not sleep for days, but can die in 3 days if we don't drink water. The problem is that our planet has less drinkable water as the years go by. Besides water pollution due to industrialization and farming, deforestation plays a major role in its scarcity. Forests cover 31% of land areas of the planet and are home to 80% of Earth's land animals and plants. Unfortunately, in today's world, forests are disappearing. It is estimated that 46 to 58 thousand square miles of forest are lost each year – this includes the destruction of 17% of the Amazon forest over the last 50 years. If this destruction speed continues, rainforests could disappear within a hundred years.

So, what are the main reasons behind deforestation?

  • Clear-cutting for agriculture

  • Construction and development

  • Unsustainable logging for timber

  • Degradation due to climate change

Why care?

Our forests play an important role in our planet's overall health. They are part of a perfect cycle that when disrupted can bring the planet out of balance. Some of the effects of deforestation include:
  • Loss of habitat for millions of species. Between 4,000 to 6,000 rainforest species go extinct each year.
  • Climate change: Forest soils are moist, but without protection from a sun-blocking tree, they quickly dry out. Trees also help perpetuate the water cycle by returning water vapor to the atmosphere. Without trees to fill these roles, many forest lands and rivers can quickly become deserts.
  • Removing trees deprives the forest portions of canopy, which blocks the sun's rays during the days and hold in the heat at night. When this happens, it gives way to extreme temperature swings that are harmful to plants and animals.
  • Trees play a critical role in absorption of greenhouse gases that fuel global warming. Therefore, if there are less trees, there are larger amounts of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere. This translates into an increased speed and severity of global warming.
Our planet tries to communicate with us about the damage that is being produced to it through strong tropical storms, wild fires, flooding, extreme temperatures, Arctic ice melt, among other unfortunate natural disasters. However, most of the population still isn't aware of these messages.

Rally for Rivers

Fortunately, there are some ways to slow down deforestation such as planting new trees, managing forest resources and eliminating clear cutting. There is a movement called "Rally for Rivers" that fosters tree plantation to counteract the dangers of deforestation. It was created by Sadhguru, a man whose endeavor is to help people become aware of reality and reconnect with their inner selves. He has brought this tree plantation movement to the whole of India and many other countries in the world to create awareness of how deforestation is depleting India's rivers and how it will deplete the world's rivers if no measure is taken to stop it. Therefore, this movement is for everyone who drinks water. It gives us the information to do something and empowers us to share it with more people, so we can keep our rivers flowing and leave a land that is rich and well, which, at the end, is the best gift anyone can offer to future generations. For example, the transformation in India is startling and only raises red flags for the rest of the world. Twenty-five percent (25%) of the entire country is now turning into desert; Godavari has lost twenty percent (20%) of its land area to new desert conditions, Kaveri forty percent (40%), Krishna and Narmada sixty percent (60%). "All rivers in India are at a dangerous level of depletion," says Sadhguru, who spearheaded India's Rally for Rivers campaign in 2017. "In another fifteen to twenty years time, they will be seasonal, they won't be perennial. The time has come when [asking], 'how to exploit the water?' is gone. We need to see how to regenerate the river."

Like a lot of rivers all over the world, the rivers in India are forest-fed, meaning they're the result of precipitation in wetland areas which then accumulate into bigger and bigger bodies of water, feeding streams into rivers. So to ensure a river's health, Sadhguru recommends a one-kilometer wide forested area along one or both banks of the country's rivers to create precipitation and keep the rivers from drying up. In the case of privately held farmland, Sadhguru recommends tree-based horticulture, like fruit or date trees, instead of ground crops like potatoes. "We can enhance the farmer's income three to eight times in a matter of four to six years time." But Sadhguru warns it won't be that simple. "The farmer will need support, economic and material support. We must give them subsidy. It requires resolute political action, definitive action is needed."

Why doesn't Morrocco Method sell to Whole Foods?

At Morrocco Method, we understand what small businesses have to go through to stay competitive on today's ever-changing market. That is why, even with Amazon's recent purchase of Whole Foods, we will NOT turn to greed and leave out our core values which are: to provide the best in natural hair care without compromising anyone's health, to be socially responsible and to protect our environment. That is why, we have supported and will continue to support real natural stores, so they can offer a product that is 100% natural, raw, wildcrafted and one that cannot be obtained at bigger stores for discounted prices, such as Whole Foods. So, you may wonder: What is the real threat behind Whole Foods and why do we take this stand? The answer lies in the same reason you may want to reconsider your stand after reading the following realities:
  • Whole Foods was one of the lobbyists against labeling products that included GMO ingredients. With this new purchase, "organic" and "natural" products are some of the first items to be discounted, which will send true health-conscious consumers away from real natural food store to Whole Foods' doors.
  • Whole Foods' groceries will get cheaper and by doing this, which will end up running small stores out of business.
  • The Whole Foods Market 365 Private Label will be sold on Amazon.com, which will bolster their network for grocery delivery service: Amazon Fresh. This means that all those natural stores with juice bars and prepared food, will eventually stop offering meals since they will not have enough demand for them.
  • Whole Foods will take advantage of Amazon's delivery structure, by offering their in-store products delivered for free to the doors of their customers, which will take small stores out of business due to the diminished foot-traffic.
  • Amazon will have easier access to their customers by selling their products at Whole Foods, which gives an array of options at better prices. Again, this leaves no fair competition for small stores, so they can't stay in business.
  • Amazon Prime will be Whole Foods' Customer Rewards Program and will continuously lower prices. Moreover, this program will give its members special savings and in-store benefits to drive traffic back to Amazon's physical stores (Whole Foods). So, why would people even bother going to other stores? This will end up damaging the economy model we currently have, increasing unemployment and having a few stores manage the overall pricing of goods.
Our intention by sharing this information is to inform you about what is really happening in this matter and to invite you to keep supporting small businesses to make today's market a fairer and more competitive environment.   Anthony Morrocco

Demodex Mites - The Microscopic Epidemic That Will Leave You Itching

Everybody's heard of headlice.. But you may not have heard of a new, extremely contagious epidemic that could potentially affect billions of people, from every part of the world.. Demodex Mites.

What are Demodex Mites?

Demodex Mites are contagious, microscopic parasites that live in or near hair follicles of mammals. They feed on sebaceous oils and skin cells from the follicle. Their bodies are covered in scales to anchor themselves to their host's hair strands, and they lay their eggs inside their host's follicles. The life span of a demodex mite can last several weeks.

Who do they affect?

The mites can infest anyone of any age. Studies have shown that 97% of adults have demodex mites with the majority of cases going unnoticed. Another study found that 90% of acne in teenagers is caused by these parasites.

What are the symptoms?

Since demodex mites are so small, they are often overlooked. As many as 25 mites have been observed in a single hair follicle. Large colonies can sometimes be noticed by a slight itchiness on the scalp, ears, forehead, and hair line. Adult females will lay around 20 eggs inside a human skin pore. They eat skin cells and sebaceous oils, causing hair to become brittle and fall. Their bites can cause infection and irritation that often lead to acne and rosacea. Since they lack anuses they cannot get rid of feces, and their abdomen will continue to grow. When they die and decompose, they release all of their feces at once inside the skin pore. These toxins can trigger immune reactions, inflammation, and tissue damage.

What can you do to protect yourself?

Demodex mites can be effectively treated using Apple Cider Vinegar, which is the main ingredient in most of our products, especially the Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo and Pine Shale Shampoo. The ACV will kill the mites and clear their eggs from the pores and follicles, stopping them from hatching and starting a new cycle. Another remedy was recently discovered by one of our Morrocco Method customers, Carol Boyce, who used Zen Detox to treat her demodex problem. Read her story below.

A personal demodex experience by Carol Boyce

"Everything is a gift" wrote Kim Estock in her article From Lice To Locks. I concur. Instead of lice, my challenge was a microscopic mite called demodex. Demodex mites, like head lice, are contagious and very difficult to get rid of! I found many DIY types of remedies on the internet from using borax to tar soap, but no one ever said that any of the remedies actually worked! Finally, I came across two companies that claimed that their shampoo was the answer. Unsure of whose product would work, I bought them both! As I waited for them to arrive I came across a product that I had bought years ago, but had forgotten that I had. It was a scalp detox product from Morrocco Method called Zen Detox. This sounded not only safe, but effective too. Eureka! This was the answer to my seemingly unending nightmare. I could feel the difference even while I was applying the product to my head, eyebrows, and ears. The unnerving crawling feeling was gone! Demodex mites will actually burrow deep into the hair follicles, feasting on the very life of your hair. What I liked most about using the Zen Detox was that it has drawing properties that remove impurities, even heavy metals. I was so impressed with the product, I decided to call the company to inquire if they sold a demodex shampoo. It was explained to me that although they did not have a specific demodex shampoo, all of their products were 100% natural. So between using the Zen Detox and chemical free shampoo, I could have the healthiest hair and scalp of my life! Because of my beyond devastating nightmare with demodex mites, I now know that having a clean scalp, all the way down to the follicle level, is crucial for having healthy hair. Can't wait to get started using all of the great products from Morrocco Method.

Hair Loss in Teenagers

So many things can happen when someone goes through puberty or is living those teenage years, and experiencing hair loss can be one of the most unpleasant things to experience. There are different factors behind hair loss, but in this article we'll touch on the most common ones: Styling products: Some of the ingredients in mousses, gels and hairsprays are also used in industrial products such as plastics, lubricants for engines, engine degreasers, emulsifiers, paints and furniture finishers. These chemicals block hair follicles, irritate the skin out and promote hair loss. Opt instead for a safer alternative, like our 100% natural Blood of the Dragon Styling Gel (For a light to medium hold), 24/7 Styling Dragon Pomade (For a medium to strong hold) or our Curl Power, to relax, elongate and tame the frizz in your curls. Commercial hair care products: "More foam means your hair is clean" is something people often say, but it is not true. That foaming effect you get from your shampoo and some body washes is produced by chemicals, which end up being absorbed into your bloodstream. A product doesn't need to lather to clean, and you shouldn't risk your health for a belief. Besides foaming agents, these products are full of parabens, silicones, fragrances and artificial colors which strip the hair of its naturally occurring oils, debilitating it and making it more prone to hair loss. The best alternative to prevent this, is by using and rotating our 5 Element Shampoos and conditioners, which nourish and provide different ingredients that detoxify your scalp and promote hair-growth. Styling tools and hair dyes: In order to look better, some teenagers often change hairstyles which include the use of heated tools. These tools dehydrate and weaken the hair, giving way to split ends and brittle hair that breaks and falls out. Furthermore, hair dyes and chemical hair relaxers can be so damaging to the hair and scalp that they can promote irreversible hair loss. Medications: Some teenagers are medicated to treat a symptom, without addressing the root cause of the problem. Some of these medications end up creating a hormonal imbalance and blocking some enzymes from getting to where they are needed in order to let the hair continue with its cycle. The most common medications are birth control and acne pills. These drugs thin the hair out. Poor Nutrition: Physical image is important during these years, therefore, some teenagers will follow restrictive diets that deprive the body from essential vitamins, minerals and macronutrients needed to stimulate healthy hair-growth. Moreover, since nutrition may not be an important element in a teenager's life, it is common for them to make poor food decisions by eating mostly processed foods. These foods are, more often than not, full of artificial and carcinogenic ingredients that when ingested, create a hormone imbalance cascade wreaking havoc on their overall health. To learn more about the best foods you can eat to promote a healthy hair click here. Medical Conditions: Some health conditions such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, Hashimoto's, adrenal fatigue, Adison's disease, PCOS, among others, contribute to the hair thinning out. Most of these diseases are preventable, and some studies have shown improvement in them when there is a lifestyle and diet change. Once these elements are instilled into an individual's daily life, the hair cycle will return to normal. Genes: Androgenetic Alopecia is a hereditary condition that promotes patterns of baldness. If this gene runs in the family, it is more likely that it will be presented as receding hair line in men and top and front of the scalp in women. Depending of the type of alopecia, it can be reversible by doing lifestyle modifications including a clean diet, clean environment and use of 100% natural products. Stress: A stressful situation like working on a project or studying for a final can give your body the message that it's safety is being threatened, so it releases cortisol, adrenaline, epinephrine and other hormones that get prepare you to fight or flight. Our bodies aren't smart enough to differentiate between a tiger chasing you down or a teacher yelling at you. That's why, it stops all functions that it doesn't consider as important (like hair growth, reproduction, skin hydration, among others) to save the blood flow and energy to your vital organs. Doing breathing exercises, meditating, yoga or having a hobby that relaxes the mind and body can help reduce stress and bring the body to homeostasis. Hair loss sometimes can be preventable and, for those who are already suffering from it,   reversible. A change in diet, lifestyle, environment and products that are used on a daily basis can result in significant improvements in hair and overall health.   Disclaimer: The information contained in this article does not provide medical advice and is not intended to be used for medical diagnosis or treatment. Chi Energy: Drawing From Your Body's Natural Energy Reserves

d502a495fbe3f1043ac907e611262cdd[1]Don't you wish some days that you just had more energy? A well-kept secret of the Taoist masters can actually draw from reserve Chi energy stored in your hair.
The basic premise here is that the hair is the external storehouse of Chi energy generated inside the body.
This quote comes from Mantak Chia, a Chi Kung master, who for years has taught a meditative practice known as "hair breathing." All internal organs, Chia says, are connected to the outside via the millions of hairs that cover the human body. Chi energy generated by the inner organs, muscles, tendons, and blood are stored in each individual strand of hair. "Hair breathing" is the process of drawing this stored bodily Chi energy back into the body for use. And while these techniques often takes years to master, more on meditative breathing practices can be found in Anthony's free e-book.
Normally this surplus energy is lost because we are unaware that is is stored in the hair and do not know how to access or use it.
But not all hair stores Chi energy in the same way. In fact, your body has five different types of hair--body, eyebrow, pubic, armpit, scalp--and each type of hair is connected to different internal organs. Armpit hair, for example, is strongly connected to the Chi energy generated by the spleen. Eyebrow energy stores energy from the tendons. b15ace981062a60606863cb35a4a057e[1]Your hair acts as an outward manifestation of your body's internal processes, and the condition of your hair corresponds with the current chemical state of various body structures. An imbalance in the blood, for example, may be reflected by thinning or damaged hair. Chemicals, then, pose a threat to your body's store of Chi energy; hair that becomes damaged by chemicals no longer properly syncs with the inner organs. Natural products, on the other hand, actually nourish this connection and ensure the continued Chi connection between body and hair. It just goes to show that your hair is a living thing and as such should be treated with only raw, all-natural products. You'll soon feel more vibrant, energetic, and healthy.

How To Fix Your Summer Hair

Summer means many things. For some, it is going to the beach and getting an envious tan; for others, however, spending time outside may not be their favorite part, because their hair may pay for all those fun hours under the sun. If you belong to the last group, you don't have to worry. Morrocco Method's got your back! In the following lines, you will find the most common summer hair problems and how to fix them. Lifeless, Weighed Down Hair Fine, straight hair can become limp when exposed to humidity. Moisture from the air settles on the surface of this type of hair instead of getting into it, hence the weighed down effect. Our Sapphire Volumizer Mist Conditioner and Moisturizer will do the trick for this type of hair; with its natural grapeseed extract, it will make your hair look thicker and fuller soon after use. Oily Hair The heat or any outdoors activity can make your body sweat more. As a result, some people experience sweaty and oily hair. Although, some recommend showering more often to get rid of the excess oil, some people don't have the time to take several showers throughout the day. For a quicker and safer fix, we recommend using our Volcanic Dry Shampoo, whose main ingredient, bentonite clay, will help absorb excess oils and give your hair an added boost of volume. Swimmer's Damaged and Dull Hair Chlorine and salt water sap moisture from already dry hair. The reason behind this lies on the fact that these substances make the cuticle of the hair start to lift. When these layers lift, they allow chlorinated or salty water to get into the center of the hair and make it more brittle. To reduce this effect, spraying your hair with our Diamond Crystal Mist Conditioner and Moisturizer 15 minutes before swimming can help protect your hair; a swimming cap would reduce the damage even more. Also, applying some Euro Oil on the ends of your hair can help restore some of the lost moisture. Lastly, the scalp can be in danger too if you are under the sun for too long. To treat a sunburned scalp, you can apply our Blood of the Dragon Styling Gel, to the sunburned areas. With its high concentration of aloe vera, it will refresh and soothe the areas that need it the most. Puffy and Frizzy Hair Curly, coarse and chemically treated hair is often moisture depleted, making the cuticles on each strand rise, making them more porous. This type of hair absorbs moisture from the air which makes the hair shafts swell up. This begets a big, wild hair style. To tame the frizz down, we recommend using our 24/7 Styling Dragon Pomade which, thanks to its beeswax, will help you define and style your hair naturally for hours. Taking care of your hair in this time of year is essential. To maintain its health and shine, besides the advice given above, using our 5 element hydrating shampoos and conditioners can help restore your hair's vitality. One more thing! Don't forget to wear a hat or scarf whenever you go outside.

Sneaky Chemicals In Most Common Baby Care Products

Looking to properly care for your baby's grooming needs but worried about covering them in layers of toxic chemicals? Unfortunately, many of today's most common baby care products are full of chemicals. Here we breakdown common baby care products and the chemicals that lie within. We provide you with alternatives to ensure that your baby gets the proper chemical-free care he or she deserves.

Baby Body Wash

You may choose a body wash because it claims to soften your baby's skin and leave a wonderful smell after bathing. However, this might no longer sound like a good idea once you read that there is 1,4-diozane in it. This chemical is a possible carcinogen and has been scientifically linked to organ toxicity and skin allergies. Even if you may not find this chemical listed on the product, the product can contain its derivatives: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, commonly known as SLS, PEG compounds, and chemicals listed as Ceteareth and Oleth. For a safer option, try our Sea Essence Baby Shampoo, which provides hydration and maintains baby's pH Balance. When used as a body wash, the unique blend of nori, kombu, and marine proteins naturally cleanses and nourishes baby's delicate skin.

Baby Shampoo

Now that your baby's body is cleansed it's time to gently wash their hair. Baby shampoos are great for giving your baby a lovely, clean smell. Unfortunately, the artificial fragrances in baby shampoos cause a lot more harm than they are worth. One of the most common ingredients in artificial fragrance is phthalates, added to prolong the life of the fragrance. Phthalates are also endocrine disruptors and are linked to asthma and allergies. Phthalates could potentially irritate babies already sensitive skin. Our Heavenly Essence Baby Shampoo is formulated without the use of any artificial fragrances. Just like the rest of the Morrocco Method products, its smell is derived from the natural ingredients, such as pure essential oils.

Baby Conditioner

After shampooing, why not add some conditioner onto your baby's hair to add even more moisture to the scalp or ease brushing their hair? Regular conditioners contain Benzophenones. These bio-accumulative and toxic chemicals protect products from UV light as sunrays may alter the ingredients in some products, but they may cause damage to your body. Benzophenones are linked to cancer, endocrine disruption, development and reproductive toxicity, organ system toxicity, irritation and ecotoxicity. Plus it is not biodegradable so the planet suffers too. We offer a 100% natural alternative with our Pearl Essence Crème Rinse. It is safe to use on babies and toddlers. With hints of patchouli and lavender, this rinse-out crème conditioner leaves your baby's hair feeling silky smooth and smelling amazing.

Detangling Spray

Sometimes children's hair can become unruly and tangled, but don't reach for the detangling spray just yet! Most commercial detangling products contain polyethylene glycol, PEG, which can strip your child's hair of its natural moisture, making it more prone to tangles in the future. Instead, try our Diamond Crystal Mist Conditioner & Moisturizer, which will help detangle your child's hair, while adding moisture back into their strands, preventing future tangles.

Baby Powder

Diaper rash isn't fun for anyone involved! One of the most common ways to prevent it is to use baby powder to absorb excess moisture. However, most commercial baby powders contain talc, which has been linked to ovarian cancer in women and can also cause lung issues in infants. Zen Detox can be used as an all-natural alternative to baby powder without the added risk.

Baby Oil

Perfect for dry skin and baby massages. Some even have vitamin A and E. That sounds like a perfect product, right? Wrong. Regular baby oil is made with mineral oil mixed with fragrance. It's a cheap byproduct of petroleum processing and acts as a plastic wrap on your skin, inhibiting the skin to release toxins. For a non-toxic option use our Euro Oil. With oils of almond, avocado, and jojoba, this oil provides moisture and relieves irritation that may occur due to dryness or chafing. As you can see many common baby care products are loaded with chemicals, yet many people find themselves unaware or unconcerned about the chemical-filled products they use to care for their babies. That is why we recommend reading the labels on the products you apply on your baby's skin and switch to 100% natural products that will enhance your baby's beauty without exposing them to toxicity at such a young age.

Essential Non-Toxic Products to Use This Summer to Protect Your Baby’s Skin

Skin is the largest organ in our body, and its health will depend on our internal state and what we put on it. For a baby, skin is more delicate and it can get damaged easily if proper care is not provided. Sometimes this can happen due to exposure to viruses and bacteria, toxic elements in the environment, chemicals in products or extreme temperatures. With summer around the corner, taking care of your baby's skin –especially if you live in a high-temperature area—is something to keep in mind at all times; however, you want to make sure that you do not worsen the condition of the skin with chemical-laden products that claim to treat rashes, sunburns, or any mild skin condition. The best option is to recourse to 100% natural ingredients; and for this Morrocco Method has your back! Thanks to our raw ingredients, our products can be used on your baby's skin to help relieve some symptoms:

Blood of the Dragon Styling Gel for Mild Sunburns

In case your baby gets a little too much sun, you can use our Blood of the Dragon Styling Gel to give them instant relief from an uncomfortable sunburn. Our styling gel is made from whole leaf aloe vera, which can soothe irritated skin and replenish some much need moisture.

Diamond Crystal Mist for Prickly Heat

A day at the beach can go downhill quickly if your baby develops 'prickly heat'; a heat rash that occurs when sweat ducts get obstructed, leading to itchy, red bumps. Young children are especially at risk as their skin has smaller pores than an adult, making it easier for the sweat to get trapped. Prickly heat is typically found on the face, neck, back, or bottom. To treat prickly heat, first move your baby to a cool spot and loosen or remove their clothing. You can then spray your baby's skin with Diamond Crystal Mist to help cool their skin and provide relief.

Zen Detox for Rashes or Chafing

Hot weather can also mean an increase in the likelihood that your baby will experience diaper rash. The added heat and the friction from a diaper rubbing on your baby's skin can lead to that uncomfortable rash or chafing. The best way to combat diaper rash is to change your baby's diaper frequently. After changing, try to let them air dry or pat them dry before putting on a new diaper. You can use our Zen Detox powder as a natural baby powder.

Heavenly Essence or Sea Essence Shampoos for Dry or Irritated Skin

Summer heat can often lead to dry, irritated skin. Commercial cleansers can make this issue worse by stripping your baby's sensitive skin of its natural oils. Using Morrocco Method's line of baby shampoos can prevent that from occurring. Our Heavenly Essence Baby Shampoo and Sea Essence Baby Shampoo can both be used as a body wash and are formulated with soothing ingredients to nourish your baby's skin. These two shampoos naturally cleanse baby's skin without stripping it of its natural oils. As a final tip, make sure you keep your baby hydrated and limit their exposure to the sun. We do not recommend applying any OTC sunscreen, since they usually include chemicals such as Titanium Dioxide that has been scientifically proven to be an endocrine disruptor; we advise, instead, to wear hats or cotton long sleeve t-shirts and pants to have a breathable and fresh protective layer that does not damage your skin and metabolism.

8 Tips For Promoting Healthy Hair Growth In Babies

Some babies are born with more hair than others, and this can result in two different scenarios:
  1. A baby with a lot of hair starts losing it within 6 months
  2. A baby with no hair does not show much hair growth in 6 months
Whichever the case may be, parents can become very concerned and wonder if this is a normal thing. The truth is that it actually is. This may be due to the change in hormones as the baby grows. Just like teeth change, so does the hair. And it's just a matter of time to see your baby grow his or her hair. However, there are certain things you can do to help with hair growth. Here are some tips that will help your baby grow beautiful and healthy hair:

Give your baby some "tummy" time

Bald spots on the back of the head of your baby can be caused by lying too much on the back. By letting the baby lie on his stomach while awake will reduce bald spots and flattening of the back of the head.

Detangle the hair

Since babies have very fine hair, this can make it easier for tangles to appear; and sometimes the only solution is to cut the knots to detangle the hair. To avoid this, use a soft baby brush to comb the hair. Make sure you do it in smooth, gentle motions. This will increase blood circulation to the scalp, which helps strengthen hair follicles.

Shampoo for a clean scalp

It's important to maintain a clean scalp to encourage hair growth. It is, however, recommended to wash your baby's hair no more than 2-3 times per week, since doing it more often can make the hair rough in texture and more difficult to detangle. Make sure that you shampoo your baby only with 100% natural shampoos, such as the Sea Essence Baby Shampoo or Heavenly Essence Baby Shampoo. These shampoos include wild-crafted ingredients like plant extracts and minerals to soothe and moisturize the skin, while their essential oils blends have a calming effect on your baby.

Avoid heat

Blow drying or applying any kind of heat is not healthy for anyone, especially for kids, whose scalp is more sensitive than that one of adults. It's always better to air dry. This will also minimize tangles.

Conditioning the scalp

Sometimes the problem lies in the scalp instead of the hair. Dry, itchy scalp can lead to vigorous scratching on the kid's part which can have hair loss as a consequence. If your little one has dry scalp, we suggest you try oil massages with Euro Oil every day. This will not only soothe the irritated or dry scalp, but will also add shine and moisture to the hair.

Styling with care

When styling and choosing to tie up the hair, make sure to do it loosely. Pulling too tight can damage the roots of the hair.

Washing and Drying

When washing your child, do this with lukewarm water, and make sure you dry him or her as soon as possible after bathing in order to prevent them from getting cold. Make sure to only use soft clean towels and to be very gentle when you rub the baby's head with the towel.

Nutrition

Having healthy hair has been scientifically proven to be directly connected with nutrition. Certain foods high in some vitamins and minerals have a bigger impact on the aspect and health of the hair. Some of these vitamins and minerals are: iron, a key ingredient in proper hair growth and which also prevents breakage due to fragility; protein and essential amino acids like the ones found in almonds, help strengthen the fair follicles (use only if there is no allergic reaction in baby or parents); B vitamins help convert food into energy that is needed for healthy skin and hair; and Vitamin A helps with the production and regulation of hormones, which can influence hair growth in babies. Remember, parenthood is a journey and trying to speed up processes does not work out sometimes. So, being patient if key, since the hair growth process can vary with every baby. While this happens, make sure you practice care, patience and… Enjoy some baby snuggles!

DIY Cutting Your Own Hair

Some of us cut our own hair when we were kids and since we probably got an intense response from our parents, we never dared again. I cut my teddy bear's fur and when I noticed that it wouldn't grow back, I waited for many years until a boyfriend needed a trim while we were traveling. I am a professional haircutter and prefer having my hair cut by another person because it is more relaxing and more precise; yet, I have cut my own hair many times. It feels empowering and freeing to cut my hair, even if I just cut the ends, my fringes or the front part.

Here is what I learned about cutting your own hair:

  • Invest in a pair of good haircutting scissors. Other scissors may not cut your hair off in a clean way, which may cause microscopic or larger breaks and tears.
  • Don't cut your bangs just before going to the party. Set time aside and cut your hair when you can be undisturbed.
  • Cut less at first. You can learn how your hair reacts and cutting a little at a time will give you more practice and will guarantee that your hair won't be too short.
If you have long hair, I suggest you split the hair in the middle of the back (photo below)               and comb it all forward laying it on to the curve of your neck (photo below)             Have your hair at least slightly wet and on your skin and then bring it up to the length you like. (photo below)             This should give you a pretty straight line when your hair is combed back again.

Alternative Methods:

There is also the ponytail method for cutting layers into your own medium to long length hair. First, thoroughly comb or brush your hair out and make a ponytail. The placement of the ponytail band can be at the bottom of your neck, in the middle of the back of your head, at the highest point of your head, straight up from the middle of your scalp, or pulled together in the front like a unicorn horn. If you comb your ponytail out and cut the tip evenly, you will have slightly layered contour. The more length you cut off the more layers you will have. You can also make a mini-ponytail out of your bangs or fringes to create a slightly layered and even look. When you cut your bangs, don't frown as this will make the bangs look longer. If you would like to trim the ends of your straight, wavy or curly hair during a lunar day, pick up one strand of hair at a time and cut the ends off with decisiveness and intention to stimulate growth and increase thickness and health. Cut the ends off which feel dry and which become easily tangled. When you have waves or curls, cut the end of the curl, right where the next curl or wave begins. Cutting in the valley (middle) of the curl may cause your hair to take a few days to curl up again. Shorter hair it will be easier to cut all of your hair, not just the contours, because you don't have to stretch your arms too much and there is much less hair, which could come between your hands and the cutting line. Most people who cut their own short hair go around their head by measuring and feeling with their fingers and occasionally checking in the mirror. Brushing your hair before you cut can allow you to cut without using a comb. You can also use your middle and index fingers of one hand to section of hair, pull it perpendicular to the scalp and then cut the hair above the two fingers. You can cut the contours with scissors, however you will find that one side of your head will be easier to cut than the other depending on your dominant hand. Lastly, you may want to use an electrical trimmer especially around the ears and for the neckline, especially if you feel that you don't have much control with your less dominant hand. Release your inner haircutter! Practice makes perfect. Written by: Linda Hollatz

Split Hair Prevention

Hair can split or break due to chemical damage, nutritional imbalances, drying ingredients in conventional hair products, stress, environmental conditions, toxicity, climate, poor quality combs and brushes, and certain fabrics rubbed against the hair. Hair splits when the cuticle layer has too much air, is too dry, and is not lubricated enough. A lot of movement while sleeping on a synthetic pillowcase can contribute to hair breakage. Very high thread count cotton and satin pillow covers are much friendlier materials. Braiding long hair or securing it on top of the head while you sleep can be helpful in minimizing splits. The quality of hair ties and accessories is also important. Cotton harmonizes with hair better than most plastic and metal, and causes less friction. Check any 'hair holder' or barrette for rough or sharp edges or seams. If you always secure your hair in the same place, your hair may tend to break along that weakened area. Move that spot around a bit and let your hair fly free occasionally. A split hair is like a dry branch cracked open into two or more parts; it cannot be mended back together. While it can be temporarily coated, it will not grow or stay back together. There are only two solutions for split hair: cutting and prevention. Commercial split end repair products contain polymers and are fillers, which only last a limited time, and their residue often causes more dryness and breakage. Morrocco Method conditioners don't contain any polymers but instead contain high quality hydrating and nourishing ingredients. The goal for using them is to prevent hair from drying and dry hair from breaking. A head of virgin hair is rarely full of split ends. Usually, there is more healthy hair than split hair. Interestingly, we hear our clients say that they have lots of split ends, yet when we look for them, there are hardly any split hairs to be found. Many women think their hair is split when it is only dry or has many different lengths. Discovering hair of different lengths does not necessarily mean it has broken. Hairs may just be at their natural stages in the hair growth cycle or it could be the result of a previous haircut . Most split hair occurs at the ends of long hair or the crown hair, which grows from the highest part of the head. It becomes the outermost layers and is more subject to damage. The crown hair is most exposed to climate influences and manipulative hair styling. When you have split ends and you are not attached to the length, the easiest way to solve the problem is by getting a very good haircut to remove the damage. From now on, you can start over with new hair care habits and dietary improvements. High acidity in the system through the consumption of too much 'sweet, meat, wheat' and even coffee may be contributing to split ends. If you want to grow your hair long, yet it breaks off at a certain length, a split hair repair job is essential. This means finding a hairdresser who can see the split ends and is willing to take the time to trim these damaged areas. The process can be made easier by taking small sections of hair, twisting them gently causing the split hairs to stick out. A tedious job and can strain the arms and eyes. If the desire is to grow the hair healthier and longer, it is necessary to bring the whole head of hair beyond its 'breaking point.' Split End Prevention Summary • Getting the split ends cut by a professional who will take the time to do a split end surgery without shortening the rest of the hair • The split ends need to be cut 1/3 – 1/2 of an inch above the area where they split since that part of the hair is likely to split as well • Using gentle hair bands • Reducing exposure to heat: hot water, blow-drying, and sun • Avoiding chemicals • Brushing and oiling your hair • Reducing acidic foods Edited excerpt from Awakening Hair – Caring for Your Cosmic Antenna by Linda Hollatz

The Natural Pet Diet for Healthy Animals

If we are what we eat, should our animals be on a natural pet diet, too?

We don't call our pets our best friends for nothing! Some studies say that people with pets live happier, longer lives.  If you ask most pet owners, you'll usually find that they describe their animals as family. Would you ever consider feeding a member of your family a diet that's bad for their health? We didn't think so. The same thought should apply to a natural pet diet, too. Commercial pet foods could be doing more harm to your pet than you might think. Commercial Pet foods: Q: What's the healthiest kind of food to feed your pet? A:  A natural pet diet is healthy! Raw meats, fish and veggies from the local farmer's market are best for your pet. Local farmer's markets have it all. The more we support local, the better! Commercial pet foods might be convenient, but they don't always have the nutritional value of a natural pet diet that our animals need. In fact, many commercial pet foods are grain-based. This is a food group typically known to be bad for an animal's diet. Historically, animals have survived on proteins from meat, bones, raw eggs, dairy and some vegetables. Benefits of a natural pet diet can include:

If pet owners lead longer and happier lives, we should want our animals to have long and happy lives, too. Discover what a natural pet diet can do for your animal's health!

Bangs or Fringes?

Bangs and fringes are hair covering the forehead. Bangs are thicker than fringes and often include sections of hair, which originate further away from the hairline. Fringes often just frame the outline of the forehead. With fringes, you can still see the skin of the forehead, whereas bangs cover the forehead completely and end often just above the eyes. What is the deeper reason behind MM and Anthony Morrocco not recommending bangs? Although not scientifically proven, holistic hair professionals, long hair experts, and gardeners around the world share the following observation: when you cut head hair into bang hair, the whole head of hair seems to stop growing in length and tends to stay where it is or moves back up as if the whole head of hair wants to stay as one unit. Fringes are finer hair, also called frame hair, and are of a different genetic makeup, similar to the little neck hairs, which rarely grow into full strong hair. We definitely prefer fringes over bangs. They are more versatile as you can comb them back into the head hair. Just spritzing your fringes with the Diamond Crystal Mist already changes your style from fringes to clear forehead and for longer hold Sapphire Mist and Blood of the Dragon will work great. Thicker bangs will always tend to fall forward. However, most bangs cannot fully cover the forehead without being manipulated by a round brush and a blow dryer. People have natural parts, which separate the bangs. Why do women want bangs? Most clients want a change, something flattering around their face and they would like to look younger, possibly hide some lines. Bangs definitely make you look younger. Shorter hair always has that effect, because we have cut off 'time' by cutting off hair length. But is that who you are? Is your style as a woman girlish? And in regards to a few lines on your forehead, when you wear your forehead clear your eyes will stand out and people always look at other people's eyes first and foremost and don't stare at wrinkles or lines. Side note: Using our Feng Shea Facial Scrub is more constructive than trying to hide wrinkles. Tips for Bangs or Fringes Before you cut bangs or fringes determine first where the hair for the bangs and fringes comes from. Pre-comb, measure and then decide whether the section is balanced or whether you need to make an adjustment. The adjustment would require taking more head hair and shortening it to more hair for the bangs or the opposite, taking a row or two of original head hair turned into bangs, and letting it merge back in with the head hair. Ideally, the latter is what we recommend: take less head hair for the reasons mentioned above. Wisdom from the Hair Shaman Humans don't have hair growing on our forehead. There are a couple of spiritual and energetic reasons for this. Cultures and mystical traditions from all over the world have depicted in the middle of our forehead, the Third Eye. The Third Eye is a Chakra, an energy center, which is anchored physically to the pituitary gland in the center of our brain. The rays of sun and moonlight as well as electric lights, will shine through the skin and stimulate the pituitary gland. An awakened Third Eye can see all around: energies, auras and colors. We also bond with others through connecting with our Third Eyes. When a child is born it cannot focus but its glance will tend to hover his mother's eyes. It connects with his mother's Third Eye. We communicate subconsciously with people through body language, like crossing our arms in front of our chest if we are skeptical or hunching over when we are bored. We communicate more or less consciously through language. The communication between our higher selves and our souls takes place on a metaphysical level. Our Third Eyes are looking at each other and facilitate a psychic connection and even telepathy. BEFORE: AFTER:

Testimonial: My Amazing Hair Transformation with MM

My journey to finding a hair care routine that makes my thin, fine, wavy-curly hair happy, healthy, and voluminous has not been an easy road. In fact, it has been frustrating, stressful, and filled with moments of gut-wrenching insecurity.

BeforeTo give a little background, my hair has always been fine, but all throughout my teenage years, my hair was full, long, bouncy, and beautiful. I didn't use excessive straightening methods on my hair, and on the contrary, I have always worked with my hair's natural wavy texture. However, I abused my hair in other ways: heavily chemically-infused shampoos and styling products were part of my daily beauty routine, and I considered hair spray to be my BEST FRIEND. Pretty soon, my hair became "dependent" on these methods, and my natural "just-out-of-the-shower" locks appeared dry, weighed down, and lifeless. The chronic use of products made with hair-stripping chemicals created a vicious cycle which set the stage for severe breakage. My wavy curls were losing their natural beauty and shape, which then prompted my usage of heat-based curling wands. Before long, I was applying direct heat of the wand to every strand of hair on my head, and then, of course, holding it in place with a cloud of hairspray. For a while I was at least achieving a nice look, but I failed to consider the damaging effects of my efforts.

Things took an extremely frightening turn, when, at the age of 23, I noticed significant hair loss, particularly along the part of my hair, which seemed to be widening, revealing more and more of my scalp every day (as shown in the before picture all the way to the left). Even my sister pointed it out to me, stating that I should try to cover it up by applying dark eye shadow to my scalp. I attributed the hair loss mainly to stress and hormonal imbalances that surfaced in my 20's as well. I'm an extremely young professional with a highly-demanding job in the medical field so it is very difficult to control my stress levels.

I knew my hair needed a change. So I switched to what I thought was a "natural" shampoo, and I hoped this would compensate for my overuse of heat and styling products. I also added an oral hair vitamin complex to my daily regimen and started parting my hair "to the side," which I had never done before, to cover the balding areas in the middle of my scalp (as shown in the before photo on the right). Yet my hair still appeared dry, damaged, and flat, and my curls ill-defined.

AfterI knew what I had to do. I had to completely cut out heat from my routine. I literally google-searched "how to wean hair off heat styling tools." I came across no-poo method bloggers (which scared me to death), and then, miraculously, I found a blogger who professed her undying love for Morrocco Method products. After years of being completely obsessed with my hair, I could not believe I had never heard of their products before. I spent a full month researching, looking at their website, reading testimonials, and reading reviews from various bloggers. I hoped this was the answer my hair needed!

I started using Morrocco Method products in August of 2016, and it is the best investment I've ever made in myself. I wish I knew about their product line years ago before the cycle of hair abuse began! My hair is full, bouncy, soft, and shiny. And even though I like my hair parted on the side and that is way I mainly wear it these days, as you can see in the after photo, the hair along the line of the middle part of my scalp has grown back significantly! My favorite products are the shampoos (Apple Cider Vinegar, Earth Essence, and Sea Essence are my favorites), and the sapphire volumizer mist leave-in conditioner (which is now the ONLY styling "product" I use after showering). In both "after" pictures, I simply used an MM shampoo and the sapphire volumizer leave-in conditioner to style while my hair air dried. No more chemicals, no more hairspray, and no more heat! I can not believe the results. Thank you Morrocco Method for bringing my hair back to life!

Sincerely,

Christina Simpson

What's Really in Your Pomade? A Story of Plastics and Parabens

Unhappy Young Woman with Two Hairstylists

The Plain Truth About Hair Styling

How much time do you spend in front of the mirror, trying to tame your hair? More importantly, how many products have you tested in the hope of finding the right one for you? If you've ever spiked your hair, tousled it, laid it flat or crafted the perfect up-do, you probably used a pomade. Pomade offers more control than a usual gel. But the obvious benefits come with its drawbacks; many pomades are too heavy and weigh the hair down. But beyond just considering how it affects our hair, it's vital that we also understand how pomades affect our skin and scalp. Pomades are often laden with synthetic chemicals that leech into the scalp and can cause health issues. Here's a look at just some of the harmful ingredients found in most store-bought pomades.

Closeup on young woman with wet hair in bathroomWhat's Really in Your Pomade?

PEG 40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil - This oil is most commonly the main ingredient in any pomade found in your local supermarket. Hydrogenated castor oil is a synthetic derivative of castor oil. By itself, it has shown limited cases of organic toxicity. More often, however, it is contaminated with either Ethylene oxide or 1,4-dioxane, known carcinogens. OLETH-10 - This synthetic polymer is most often used both as a fragrance and as a surfactant, meaning a lathering agent. Not only does OLETH-10 pose a safety risk as an irritant, but it is also a suspected environmental toxin. CETEARETH-25 - Like Hydrogenated Castor Oil, CETEARETH-25 can often be contaminated with carcinogenic ingredients. In concentration, it is a known irritant and can cause enhanced skin absorption. Isopropyl Alcohol – This is a solvent and denaturant (poisonous substance that changes another substance's natural qualities). This petroleum-derived substance is also used in antifreeze and as a solvent in shellac. Fragrance – Fragrance is present in most deodorants, shampoos, sunscreens, skin care body care and baby products. Many of the compounds in fragrance are carcinogenic or otherwise toxic. "Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to 4,000 separate ingredients." Most or all of them are synthetic.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...

Therefore, increasingly more people are looking for natural products that match their healthy lifestyles. Do you opt for a product that creates a strong hold, but dries out your hair, breaks your ends or causes flaking? Or would you rather choose a non-toxic brand that requires additional applications throughout the day? Luckily, with our water-based 24/7 Styling Dragon Pomade, you no longer have to struggle with making a decision. This pomade presents you with a firm, non-sticky styling hold while keeping your hair smooth and healthy all day.Pomade Honey
